| Description | Two German prisoners of war in the 'cage', France. John Warwick Brooke is believed to have captured this very personal moment in these two German soldiers' war experience. Conditions in this photograph are probably no better and no worse than the situation the soldiers experienced in their own trenches. The mud is still knee-deep, the food is still rationed and they are still denied personal freedom. For these men, their front line experience has now come to an end.
