| Description | King George V, on the left, and King Albert I of Belgium walking along a brick pathway. The path is bordered by what appears to be sand and sea grass. According to the photograph's original caption, they are just leaving the King of Belgium's residence. The difference in stature of these two men is considerable. Both men are in full uniform, and carrying a cane and a pair of gloves. Two men, also in uniform, follow a short distance behind. During World War I royal families played an important ambassadorial role, forging and nurturing good relations between nations. [Original reads: 'THE KING VISITS THE WESTERN FRONT. H.M. and the King of the Belgians leaving the laters [sic] house.'] |
