| Description | Makeshift graveyard for Canadian soldiers. This striking and poignant image shows three crudely made crosses standing upright amongst a tangle of barbed wire. At first it is difficult to make out the crucifixes amongst the debris of war. This image was intended for propaganda purposes and would possibly have been used in British and/or Canadian newspapers. Images such as this have the effect of strengthening the ordinary people's bond with the soldiers from all countries fighting on the Allies' side.
