Lines written on the
PUNISHMENT OF OUR
HOLY FATHER POPE PIUS IX
BY VICTOR IMMANUEL
You Irishmen both young & old,
Atention pay unto toy scrowl,
The truth to you I "will unfold,
Without much hesitation,
While I lament for Kome so rere,
Where first Saint Peter place'd his chair
But Victor Immanual does declare.
He'l be our Popes runation.
CHORUS—
But God is greater than him still,
All praie to his holy will,
His promises he will fulfil,
He'l shield his Church from danger,
This wicked King how can he say
Our holy Pope he'l drive away,
But dont you know wee'l see the day,
He'l meet his desolation,
The Nunaries he set on fire,
To please his cruel base desire,
Who can such a King admire,
That proved our Nuns runatioa,
Five-hundred Nuns without a home
For shetter had to fly to roam,
Their punishment it is not knhwn,
Since this late insurection,
Half starv'd & naked they did fly
For mercy they did londly cry.
But to this King it vave great joy,
He'd give them no protection,
It was most auful for to see,
A holy Priest of sanctityf
Acused to be a traitor,
By those neathens used with cruelity
To haa their brutal cries,
Wee want no Priest or Saerafic,
For wee are Garabaldies boys,
He is our liberater,
We need not wonder for to see,
Our Chuoch opress'd with herasy,
But dont you know it was to be,
like would be persacuted,
But now the time is near at kand
Chose heathens can no longer stand
They fall before the Lords command,
And got no hesitation,
When, Boneypart in France did reign,
He said the world he would gaind.
At lenth he found it was in vain,.
Like the King curs'd Sardine,
He robed the Alters every whers,
The Crucifix the did not spare,
In punishment I do declare,
He died in Saint Helena,
Now since I have ta drop my pea
I call on each religeous freind,
For by true prager you may depend
The fruit will be the sweeter,
For let all wind & tempest rail,
The Son of God he did reveal,
The gatee of hell shall not prevail
Against the Rock of Peter,
P.Brereto, I, Lr, Exchange, St. Dublin
