I AM a rough tar as you see,
And I've money to last me my life,
I want but one thing for to please me,
And that is a good-natur'd wife ;
With what she has been I'll not teaze her,
Good or bad in her no faults I'll see,
Here's both man and money to please her,
If that she'll be constant to me.

Long time I've been ploughing the ocean,
And gold I have got by the seas,
But now a kind|woman's my notion,
And her I'd endeavour to please ;
Storms and tempests did never affright me,
Dear woman I still had in view,
And she that will strive to deligkt me,
Shall find the same happiness too.

Tho' some men they rail at at a womaa,
And wantonly call her a frow,
But if she is worse than she should be,
Some rogue like himself made thee so ;
As to my part I never shall blame them,
If to please me they do all they can,
For he that does ruin and shame them,
I'm sure he can ne'er be a man.

Now those who have ruin'd most women,
Are generally the worst of knaves ;
And if they have got a good wife, sir,
Use her worse than the West India slaves ;
But girls here's a tar that is hearty,
So take me now rough as I run,
You'll find me of no jealous party,
But a generous and right woman's man.

Some talk of beauty and duty,
And say that good women are scant,
But I know the worth of a woman,
And that is well known by the want ;
So give me some kind one or other,
Good or bad I shall never despise,
For while I remember my mother,
Dear woman I always will prize.
