and are commonly ufed In their contracted form ; as

Diobair, deprive^ Diobradh.
Fogair, remove, Fogradh.
Foghain , fiiffice, Foghnadli.
Fofgail, open^ Fofgladh.
Innis, tell^ Innfeadh.
lobair, facrifice, lobradh.
Mofgail, a-xvake. Mofgladh.
Seachain, avoid, Seachnadh.
Tionfgain, begin, Tionfgnadh.
Togair, defire, Togradh.
Obferve, that Verbs which thus fuflPer a fyncope in form-
ing the Infinitive, fufFer a like fyncope in the Preterite Sub-
jun(ftive, and in the Imperative Mood ; as 'innis' tell, In-
fin. 'innfeadh', Pret. Subj. 'innfinn, innfeadh, innfeamaid',
Imperat. 'innfeam, innfeamaid, innfibh'.
2. A conilderable number of Verbs have their Infinitive
like the Root ; as
Caoidh, lament. Ol, drink.
Dearmad, negle£I. Ruith, run.
Fas, gro^v. Snamh, fwim.
Gairm, call. Sniomh, twine.
Meas, ejiimate.
3. Polyfyllables in ch, whofe charadlerlftic Vowel is fmall,
cither throw it away, or convert it into a broad Vowel, and
add adh : as
Injln.
Ceannaich, buy, Ceannachadh,
Smuainich, think, Smuaineachadh.
Moft Monofyllables in fg, and a few others, follow the
fame Rule ; as,
