CHAP. IV. OF PRONOUNS.
The Profiotms are, for the most part, words used instead
of nouns. They may be arranged under the following di-
visions: Personal, Possessive, Relative, Demonstrative, In-
terrogative, Indefinite, Compound.
The Fer&ojial Pronoims are those of the 1st, 2d, and 3d
persons. They have a Singular and a Plural Number, a
Simple and an Emphatic Form. They are declined thus ;
Singular. Plural.
Simple For?fi. Emphcit. F. Simple F. Emphat'
1. Mi, mhi, /, me, Mise, mhisc, Sinn, ive, i/s, Sinne.
2. < rp, ' ,' ' ^Tusa, thusa. Sibh, )t, j)w, Sibhse.

C©^ The Pronouns 'tu' thou, *se' he, *si' she, 'siad' thejj, are
not employed, like other nominatives, to denote the object after
a transitive verb. Hence the incorrectness of the following ex-
pression in most editions of the Gaelic Psalms : ' Se chrùnas tu
' le coron graidh,' Psal. cili. 4. which translated literally signi-
fies, // is he who??! thou wilt crown, dec. To express the true
sense, viz. it is he who will crown thee, it ought to have been
' 'so chrùnas thu le coron giaidh.' So ' is mise an Tighearn a
' shlanuicheas tbu^ I am the Lord that healeth thee, Exod. xv.
26. ' Ma ta e ann a f hreagaireas thu^ if there be any that will
answer thee^ Job, v. 1. ' Co e a bhrathas thu V Who is he that
will
