Of all human attainments, the art, which
enables man to communicate his opinions, or
his feelings, in the shape of oral, and ΛVΓitten
language, — is the most pxccious in its value.
By the chain of this magical union, those
are incorporated, Avhom the distance of time,
and of scene, would else have separated ; — the
earl}^ and the recent ages, meet ; — a barter of
intellectual treasure is negociated,— and the
civilized nations of the earth are like neighbour-
ing families ; — in a word, all acquisitions to
the use, and the ornament of the social
world, are streams from this fountain.
