WHITEHILLS AND BOYNDIE.
WHJTEHILLS is a village in the parish of Chaplain, Eev. James Ledingham M.A
Boyndie, 1\ miles west-north-west of Banff,
chiefly inhabited by fishermen, and U
reached by rail to Ladysbridge or by omni-
bus from Banff. A harbour for fishing
boats was constructed here in 1899, at
cost of £10,000.
Boyndie parish is 2£ miles south-west
from Banff, on the Great North of Scot-
land railway, and is 5 miles long by 2
wide, in the small debt court district of
Banff. The Banffshire Lunatic Asylum at
Ladysbridge, opened in May, 1865, and the
interesting ruins of Boyne Castle are also
in this parish. Ladysbridge is a station on
the Tillynaught and Banff branch of the
Great North of Scotland railway, distant
1£ miles from Whitehills. Acreage of
Boyndie parish, 7,119 ; rateable value,
£8,597; population in 1901, of the parish,
2,005; of Whitehills, 1,036.
The Duke of Fife K.T., G.C.V.O., the
Dowager Countess of Seafield, of Castle
Grant, Morayshire, and the Banff Lunacy
Board are the heritors.
