River and Harbour Dues.

TONNAGE.
XXIV. And be it farther en-
acted, that, for discharging the debt
already contracted, and defraying
the expenditui'e which may be in-
curred in the execution of the opera-
tions and constructions of the works
hereby authorised, for maintaining
and still farther improving the Na-
vigation of the Clyde, between the
said harbour at the Broomielaw,'
Port- Glasgow and Cardross, the
said Trustees shall be and are hereby
authorised and empowered, from
and after the passing of this Act,
not only to demand, levy and re-
cover the River and Tonnage Duties
granted by the said recited Acts, at
the rate of one shilling per ton,
upon all Goods, Wares, Merchan-
dise, Commodities, and other things
(except Coals, Lime, Limestone,
Bricks, Pantiles, and other articles
specially exempted by the said re-
cited Acts, as also Freestone and
Whinstone,) which shall be carried
in and upon the said River Clyde,
or any part thereof, between the
Castle of Dumbarton on the West,
and the said Harbour at the Broom-
ielaw on the East, but also, if they
shall find it necessary, to increase
the said river or tonnage dutj' to an
extent not exceeding one-third of
the said river or tonnage duty
hitherto levied under the said re-
cited Acts, according to the stagea
of the river herein-after described.
N. B. — Tonnage is raised by the
Trustees fiom Is. to Is. id. per ton,
the highest rate allowed by this
Act. By the 25th section, power
is given to levy 2d. per ton upon
Freestone, Whinstone, Coal, Brick,
Pantiles, &c. in proportion to the
stages of the River.
Rates payable to the Church- Yard Warden, as fixed by the
Magistrates and Council, on the 2^th of October, 1835, viz.: —
