| Description | Sheet 51 of the Ordnance Survey One-inch Popular Edition of Scotland. It was issued in 1928 at a scale of 1 inch to 1 mile (1: 63,360) from a survey done between 1925 and 1927. The first Ordnance Survey of this area was done between 1858 and 1879. This sheet shows the coast of Angus and Aberdeenshire from the coastal rock of Long Meg, just north of Garron Point, in the north, to the links at Montrose, in the south, with a considerable part of the hinterland. In the top left (north west) part of the sheet are the eastern fringes of the Grampians, and in the central and lower part of the sheet are the lowland coastal areas of north Angus and south Aberdeenshire. The River North Esk rises in the Grampians, in the upper left part of the sheet, and runs south and east across the sheet to enter the sea just north of the links at Montrose. Brechin is at the bottom centre of the sheet. The Water of Bervie also rises on the edge of the Grampians and runs south and east, to enter the sea at Inverbervie, about half way up the coast. Stonehaven is in the top right (north east) corner, where the Cowie Water and Carron Water enter the sea. On the right, the sheet stretches from a point in the sea just off the coast from the coastal rock of Long Meg, and Kempstone Hill (432 feet), in the north, to a point in the sea some way off the links at Montrose, in the south. On the left, the sheet stretches from a point just north and west of Gannock (2398 feet), in the north, to the farm of Welford, just south of Fern, in the south. There are two sets of References, the scale statement ‘One Inch to One Statute Mile - 1/63360’, with accompanying scale bar, and two further scale bars of 1 centimetre to 1000 yards and 1 centimetre to 1 kilometre.
