| Description | Sheet 87 of the Ordnance Survey One-inch Popular Edition of Scotland. It was issued in 1925 at a scale of 1 inch to 1 mile (1: 63,360) from a survey done between 1922 and 1923. The first Ordnance Survey of this area was done between 1845 and 1857. This sheet shows Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire, in Galloway, with Glen Kens and Loch Ken and Woodhall Loch on the right (east), and the towns of Parton, Dalry and New Galloway, a mountainous area to the west of this, and then the River Cree running from north to south to Newton Stewart, and Creetown, further south. To the west again, is another sparsely inhabited area, with several small lochs in the north west. On the right, the sheet stretches from Lawglass (1270 ft.), in the north, to Ringford, in the south. On the left, the sheet stretches from Pindonnan (1097 feet) and Muck Water, in the north, to Dirskelpin Moss and Barhapple Loch, in the south. There is one set of References, the scale statement ‘One Inch to One Statute Mile - 1/63360’, with accompanying scale bar, and one other scale bar of 1 centimetre to 1 kilometre. Contours and fathoms are shown, with accompanying information about measurement. |

| Description | A series of 92 sheets mapping all of Scotland. Ordnance Survey aimed to produce an attractive contoured road map that would be popular with the 'man in the street'. The ‘Popular’ edition was particularly intended for the inter-war generation's leisure hours – cycling, touring or walking through the countryside. |
