| Description | Sheet 46 of the Ordnance Survey One-inch Popular Edition of Scotland. It was issued in 1929 at a scale of 1 inch to 1 mile (1: 63,360) from a survey done between 1924 and 1927. The first Ordnance Survey of this area was done between 1871 and 1875. The islands of Eigg and Muck, lying in The Minch, take up the top left area of the sheet, with the peninsulas of Ardnamurchan and Moidart, and the region of South Morar occupying the rest of the sheet. At the right edge, the sheet stretches from Loch Morar in the north, to the inland end of Loch Sunart, in the south. At the left edge, the sheet stretches from the northernmost point of Eigg, to the southernmost point of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, and a few miles of sea to the south. There are two sets of References, the scale statement ‘One Inch to One Statute Mile - 1/63360’, with accompanying scale bar, and two further scale bars of 1 centimetre to 1000 yards, and 1 centimetre to 1 kilometre. Contours and fathoms are shown, with accompanying information about measurement. Eigg, along with Muck, Canna, and Rum, makes up the Small Isles. Eigg was in the county of Inverness-shire until 1891, while Muck, Canna and Rum were in the county of Argyllshire. All of the Small Isles were taken into Inverness-shire in 1891, until the county boundary re-organisation in 1975. |
