Broadside ballad entitled 'The boy in blue'.
Boy in Blue.
Cheer up, cheer up, my mother dear,
O, why do yon sit and weep ?
Forsakes me on the deep ?
That sees the bark set sail;
O, why do you turn so pale?
O, wonder not that, next to thee,
I love the galloping wave,
And only carries the brave;
But we struggled heart and hand,
Shames all your strife on land.
And if the breakers kill our ship,
And your boy goes down in the foam,
Is a prayer for those at home.
A voice in the anchor-chain
The bark will come back again.
