THB object of the Institution is to provide for the fatherless children of our Seamen and
Marines a useful and religious education, according to the principles of the Church of
England, and to support and clothe them as far as the Funds will permit.
Numbers of such children are found in our Naval Ports, surrounded by all that is distressing
in poverty and vicious in morals.
In the Female Orphan Home there arc 140 girls entirely dependent on the funds of the
charity (eligible for admission between the ages of seven and eleven years) who are maintained,
clothed, and educated : there are in addition 23 girls partially maintained by Greenwich Hospital
Funds and 4 under the Royal Patriotic Fund.
There is also another small Home in Clarendon Boad, Southsea, where 20 children from
5 to 7 are received.
The girls are under the guidance of a careful matron and subject to a course of industrial train-
ing to qualify them for domestic service and such other occupations as the Directors from time to
time deem advisable. A few girls will join the Secondary School for further teaching, and some
are attending the Higher Education Classes outside the Home.
There are 44 boys (to be increased to 50), maintained from the Funds of the Home, at Swanley
in Kent.
The Directors dejjend on voluntary contributions for funds to carry on the Institution. The
number of children they can receive depends upon the amount of their Funds. They therefore
confidently appeal to the charitable for help in carrying on and extending these works of
usefulness, and rescuing from want and misery the fatherless children of those who have served
their country, and who, in many cases, whilst thus engaged, have lost their lives in war, or by
storm, shipwreck or disease.
Visitors are earnestly invited to view the Institution, which is open daily for inspection
from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m., Saturdays excepted.

THB object of the Home is to provide for the fatherless children of our Seamen and Marines, and
ensure them a practical training, including all household and laundry work, under a capable
Matron, with a view to domestic service. Every effort is made to secure good situations for the
girls on leaving the Home.
If any girl shews a particular aptitude for special work outside domestic service she is given her
chance, if practicable.
To encourage those educationally Inclined, "Nore Scholarships" at the Chatham Secondary
School, at the expense of the Funds, have been instituted.
On 31st December, 1918, 43 girls were maintained in the Home and 2 at the Royal Sailors' Orphan
Girls' Home, Hampstead ; 6 of these girls are partially maintained by Greenwich Hospital Funds.
In addition, 19 boys were maintained at Swanley and other Homes.
All denominations are accepted and orphans of men of the H.N.A.8., R.N.B., and B.N.V.E.,
who have lost their lives whilst on duty in the Royal Navy, are equally eligible with those of men
of the Royal Navy and Eoyal Marines. Age for admission 5 to 12 years.
The Home is governed by a Committee of officers and men, who earnestly invite visitors to view
the Home.
The extent of the good work of the Home depends on voluntary contributions, and all donations
will be gratefully received. Donations should be sent to the Hon. Treasurer and all correBpondence
