ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE.
EEGULATIONS RESPECTING THE
LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL
POK
THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE.
The Medal may be granted to all men enrolled
for the first time in the Koyal Naval Reserve
on and after the 1st April. 1906. who satis-
factorily complete 16 years' service with the
requiRite periods of Naval Training and have
entered their final period of service provided
their character has never been assessed below
"very good " during such training.
<b) The Medal may also be granted to all other
Roval Naval Reserve men who have satisfac-
torily completed 15 years' service with the drill
or training rec[uired during that period pro-
vided they entered for the final period of
service, and that their character has never been
assessed below " very good " during such
training.
To entitle a man of the Royal Naval Reserve to
a Medal, he must have been recommended for
the award by the Registrar General of Shipping
and Seamen.
Time served in the Royal Navy will not be
allowed to count towards the 15 years' service
required ; but. as regards Royal Naval Reserve
men transferred to the Coast Guard, time
served in that Force will be allowed to count
in cases where the Naval Long Service and
Good Conduct Medal is not awarded.
2. The form of application (R.V. 74) which provides for
a record and certificate of efficient service should be
submitted by the Registrar of Royal Naval Reserve of the
man's Home Port to the Registrar -General who will
complete and forward the same to the Admiral Com-
mnnding Coast Guard and Reserves, who will determine
the validity, or otherwise, of any claim for the Medal.
3. When the conduct of a member after he has been
awarded the Medal is considered to be such as to dis-
qualify him from wearing it, he may be deprived of it by
the Admiral Commanding. The deprivation will be
reported to the Admiralty.
4. When it is desired to replace a Medal which has
been accidentally lost, the man to whom the Medal
belonged must make a declaration before a Magistrate
(or Registrar of Royal Naval Reserve) stating the cir-
cumstances in which the loss occurred, together with
his rank, name, and R.V. 2 number. This declaration
will be sent to the Admiralty through the Registrar
General, and the Medal will be replaced on payment, if
the explanation as to its loss is considered satisfactory.

Note.— Chief Skippers, Skippers, Chief Warrant Engineers and Warrant Engineers are eligible
for the above Medal on the completion of 16 years* combined service as an officer and man.
REGULATIONS RESPECTING THE
LONG SERVICE MEDAL
THE ROYAL NAVAL VOLUNTEER RESERVE.
1. Eligibility.— MenibeiB of the Royal Naval Volunteer
Reserve may be granted a medal for long service after 12
years' service in the Volunteer or Territorial Forces, in-
cluding service from the age of 15 in a Cadet Corps or
Cadet Battalion of the Army Volunteers.
Only service as an "Efficient" will be allowed to
count towards the qualifying period, but the service
need not be continuous.
2. Service with the Regular Forces, Militia, or Special
Reserve, will not be allowed to reckon towards the quali-
fying period, but all service with the Auxiliary F.irces,
including service qualifying for the Colonial Auxiliary
Forces Long Service Medal will reckon, provided t;hat
the last five years have been served in the Royal Naval
Volimteer Reserve. For this purpose service in the dis-
banded Royal Naval ArtUlery Volunteers will reckon
as service in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
Service in Boys' Companies will be allowed to reckon
towards the grant of the medal, subject to the following
rules :—
(a) To count his service as a boy he must enrol in
the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, direct or
through a Probationer Company, within six
mouths of leaving the Cadet Company.
(b) He will not be permitted to count service
before the age of IS
3. The Medal may also be granted to members who
have retired after completing 12 years' service, and to
Officers who have served in the ranks, and are not
eligible for the uecoration for Officers.
4. Applicatiom. Applications should be made on
Form R.N. V. 12 to the Admiral Commanding Coast Guard
and Reserves who will determine the validity or other-
wise of any claim
6. Forfeiture of Jfedol— When the conduct of a member
after he has been awarded the medal is considered to be
such as to disqualify him from wearing it, he may be
deprived of it by the Admiral Commanding Coast Guard
and Reserves. The deprivation will be reported to the
Admiralty.
6. ioss of Medal.— Vfhen it is desired to replace a
medal which has been accidentally lost by the holder, a
declaration must be made befjre a Magistrate, or
before a commissioned Officer of the R.N.V. Reserve,
stating the circumbtances in which the loss occarred,
and the name, rank, and official number of the man to
whom the medal belonged. This declaration will be sent
to the Admiralty ihrough the usual channel in the case
of a man who is still serving, and direct in the case
of one who has retired. The medal will be replaced,
on payment, if the explanation as to its loss is considered
satisfactory.
