15a. Whistle and Cord'.--Whlstle:Whiteraetal(Ariny
Pattern). Cord: (Army Pattern), the colour being
blue for R.M.A.,and greenforR.M.L.I. When worn,
the cord to be looped over the left shoulder, the
whistle being carried in the left breast pocket.
156. Field Glasses, when carried, are to be secured
by two leather loops on back of case through which
the belt is passed.
16. Waterproof Coat and Cape. — Coat. — Dark blue-
grey Gabardine, lined throughout with dark blue
wool lining, single breasted, 6 black bone buttons
down the front, turn-down collar, side sliis forsword,
with patch pockets inside.
Cape.— Material and lining as Coat, 4 black bone
buttons down the front, turn-down collar fastened
with hook and eye. Minimum length of Cape to
be sufficient to cover the knuckles.
16a. Pea Jacket.— (Optional) for wear afloat when
performing duties on deck and in fire-control stations
only. May be worn byofficers servingashoreat, R.M.
Divisions for Musketry, Gumiery, Field Training,
and such other similar occasions as may be deter-
mined by the Commandants, but not in Review or
Undress Order.
Blue pilot cloth, double-breasted, cut loose, and
long enough to come half-way between thigh and
knee. Slit at back. Turn down collar, two inches
deep with lapel and step. Four large gilding metal
buttons of Corps pattern on each side, three to
button, and one under turn. One outside welted
breast pocket on left side, two bottom pockets with
flap, one ticket pocket with flap inside left facing,
one inside breast pocket on right side. Two small
buttons of Corps pattern, and 3J inch slit, to cuffs,
stitched round cuffs four inches from the end of
sleeve. Shoulder straps of the same material as
the garment, fastened with a small gilding metal
button of Corps pattern. Badges of rank in metal.
The coat is lined with Italian cloth, and the edges
iare single stitched half an inch from the edge. The
collar is provided with a tab, underneath, to button
|aeross the opening when required.
II.-HOESE FURNITURE.
17. Mounted officers of the Royal Marines are to
use the same pattern saddlery as described in the
Dress Regulations for the Army, 1911, with the
following exceptions :—
The saddle may be either a plain hunting or the
universal pattern described in Appendix V. Stirrups,
iteel, plain hunting with hollow tread. The bridoon
■eins may be fitted with buckles instead of being
sewn on to the bridoon. Breastplate with device to
be retained.
Brow bands and rosettess to be red for the R.M.A.
and blue for R.M. L.I.
Swords to be carried on the saddle by mounted
officers in all mounted orders of dross other than
Review Order.
18. Officers in possession of saddlery of the old
pattern may continue to use it until worn out
Notes, (a).— Officers having the temporary rank of
Major, under Order-in-Council of 29th November,
1881, while embarked are not to wear the uniform of
a Major.
(o) Majors performing the duties of company
officers are not to wear spurs on parade with troops,
nor at infantry drill, unless they are required for
mounted duties.
(o) Paymasters, Barrackmasters, and Quarter-
masters are to wear the same pattern uniform as
other Officers of corresponding rank.
(d) Officers on the Retired List whose names appoar
in the Navy List may wear the uniform of their rank
which was regulation at the time they retired, or they
may wear the latest pattern uniform, but in each
ease the letter "R" is to be worn on the shoulder-
5ords or shoulder straps, Immediately below the
badges of rank.
(e) Officers of the Royal Marines are to conform
strictly to the provisions of the King's Regulations
for the Army In regard to the different orders of
dress, unless otherwise provided for by special order
for the Royal Marines. When embarked they will
conform to the orders for the dress of Naval Officers
as regards the wearing of white cap covers, and also
of other articles of white clothing if the detachment
is provided therewith, but in all cases will wear dress
similar to their men when on duty with them; the
latter does not apply when the men are in white
working rig.
Decorations, &c, are to be worn with white clothing
under the regulations laid down for Naval Officers
on page 829.
The white mess waistcoat is only to be worn with
the white mess jacket.
(/) Officers are not permitted to appear in their
uniforms at Fancy Dress Balls. By the term "Uni-
form " in this order is meant the dress prescribed bv
existing regulations in force, and it is not intended
to debar Officers from wearing at fancy dress balls
uniforms of obsolete pattern which may" correctly be
described as fancy dress.
(g) For mourning, a band of crape 3J inches wide is
to be worn above the left elbow.
(ft) Information regarding patterns of uniform or
equipment for Officers of Royal Marines can be
obtained on application at the Office of the Adjutant
General, Royal Marines, 35, Spring Gardens,
London, S.W.
III.— UNIFORM FOR ALLOFF1CERS OF ROYAL
MARINE ARTILLERY NOT INCLUDED IN
I. UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED.
19. Cap and White Cover.— Colonel Second Com-
mandant to wear the cap as described below for
other officers, but to have embroidered oak leaf
round lower edge of peak.
Blue cloth, or staff pattern. Band, and welt
round crown, of scarlet cloth. Chin strap 8 inch
wide, of black patent leather, buttoned behind the
corners of the peak by two gilt buttons bearing a
crown and lion. The peak to be of black patent
leather, drooping at an angle of 45°, ornamented
with j inch gold embroidery for Field Officers and
plain for other Officers: the peak to be 2 inches
deep in front when worn with embroidery and lj
inches when plain. The badge to be worn in front on
the red band to consist of a gold embroidered laurel
wreath surrounding a silver globe l inch in diameter,
and to be surmounted by gilt metal cross guns 2
inches long half way up the rim of the cap, which is
to be stiffened in front at an angle of 45°.
White cap covers are when worn to reach to the top
of the red band, and ihe metal cross guns are to be
worn outside the cap cover. The material for white
cap covers is to be pique.
20. Field Service Cap.— Blue cloth folding cap 4J
inches high with scarlet superfine cloth piping round
crown and down back and front seams, side Baps sj
inches deep, to turn down when required, with two
small corps buttons in front. Badge— a gilt metal
grenade as worn on the collar of blue frock. To he
placed on the left side of the cap, at an angle.
21. Frock, Serge, "A."— Of blue angola, tartan or
serge, full in chest, slits at sides, five regimental ball
buttons down the front. Two breast patch pockets
outside, eiinehos wide, 6jinches deep, the top edge of
pocket in line with the second button, with three
pointed flap, small regimental button and hole, loose
plait on rear side of pocket, two outside patch
pockets below, with throe-pointed flap. Two inside
breast pockets up and down with hole and button.
Shoulder-straps of same material with metal badges
of rank and fastened with a small button. Collar
stand up, cut square in front, and from lj inches to
1} inches high, fastening with two hooks and eyes,
with black silk tabs sewn on inside. Sleeves with
pointed cuffs, 6 inches high, with 2j-ineh slit, and
two small buttons on outside seam.
