It is particularly requested that the sea chest may
lie at Osborne seven days previous to the Cadets join-
ing.
Note.—\. Clothing to be distinctly marked with
the Cadet's name in full.
2. Trousers to be made without pockets, and the
two worl.:ing suits to have only one pocket on left
outsidebreast, and one pocket mslde right breast.
3. There is no special pattern for underclothing.
4. GovenDUeiit bedding will be supplied, for which
a charge of Is. per month will be made. (This does
not include sheets or pillow cases.)
The following articles can ^-be supplied at the
Colleges if the Cadets require them :—
Braces. Links.
Silk ties (uniform). Bootlace;.
Tooth brushes. t'aEhmere scarves.
Tooth powder and paste. Bathing drawers.
Coll r studs. Crl ket shoes.
Front studs. Keyrings.
Artii'les supplied at the Colleges will be charged
to the Cadet's personal account; they will be charged
at cost price allowing sufficient margin to cover
expense of transit only.
REGULATIONS RESPECTING SEXTANTS.
Cadets when entering on their fifth term at Dart-
mouth should alreaiiy have procured a Sextant in a
box, such instrument being obtained by parents; a
leather case is not necessary.
Any new Sextant must be approved by the Captain
of the College and must have the following qualifi-
cations:—
1. Strong frame and well finished in all respects,
all loose fittings to be stamped with the number,
2. Radius not to be less than 65 Inches to mii^IIe
of the graouadon.
3. A'c distinctly cut, and to read to 10 seconds up
to at least 125° on, and 5» oft, the arc, the vernier
being divided three divisions to the right of the
iudcx.
4. Sliade3 to be of neutral tint and of satisfactory
densities.
5. A star telescope 'not inverting images) to be
prov'ided, and an inverting telescope with two eye-
pieces, one of which to have a raa«nif.ving powerof at
least 7 diameters. Thu lelescopes and collar to be
fitted with interi-upted thread.
6. Adjusting screws to mirrors to be placed in
positions as linle exposed as possible, preferably at
the base of the mirror.", to be recessed so as to be
moved by a squared key or screw-driver and fitted
with covers.
7. Two shades for eye-pieces of different Intensities
to be ground cooical, to slip on, not screw.
8. Handle to be of good size.
10. A lutton over the handle besides the usual
chocks for keeping the instrument in place when the
lid is closed. Box to have recessed hooks for secur-
ing the lid, and a recessed handle.
11. No Sextants will be accepted in which the
unsilvcred portion of the horizon glass is absent, or
the telesrope so fitted as not to be entirely remov-
able in one piece, and the horizon glass should have
a minimum width of 1—1/8 inch.
12. The name of the owner to be on both Sextant
and box.
Sextants possessing the necessary qualifications
can be obtained from various makers.
A good 63-inch instrument can be obtained for
n. los.
Sextants presented to Cadets which have belonged
to pirems or others are not. required to conform
rigidly to the standard, p'ovided thty are of raflius
not li'ss than ihat prescr'bed and are considered
suitable by ttie Captain cf the College, but no Sex-
tant can be accepted unless accompanied by u Kew
Certificate, Class A.
