DRESS REGULATIONS : OFFICERS, ROYAL MARINES. 850

wil h a small button. Collar Stand up, out square, in
l'ront, and from IA inches lo Ij inches high, fastening
with two hooks and eyes, with black silk tabs sewn
on inside. Sleeves with pointed cuffs, 6 inches high,
with 2',-inch slit, and two small buttons on outside
seam.
Collar badge to be a gilt metal grenade, 2j inches
long, i inch from each end of collar.
21!. Frock CocU— For all Officers— Blue cloth, double-
breasted, with stand-up collar, and round cuffs 33
inches deep. A slash with three points and three
small D !gi mental buttons on each sleeve; the slash to
be 6 inches long at the forearm seam and 6* inches
long at the end points, and to be 2lneb.es broad at
the narrowest parts and 2j inches broad at each of
the three points. Two rows of regimental ball buttons
down the front, six in each row, 8 inches apart at top
and 4 inches apart at the waist. A side edge behind
on each skirt half the depth of the skirt, two regi-
mental hall-buttons on each side edge and one at
each side of the waist. Shoulder-straps to be attached
by an underpiece passed through a loop on the lower
part of the shoulder, fastened at the top by a small
regimental button which passes through both under-
piece and strap; the top of the strap is triangular,
the sides being about l! inches long and the bottom
about \ inch from the centre point. Badges of rank
to be embroidered in gold on the shoulder straps.
Collar badges the same as for the tunic. Collar,
cuffs, slashes, and shoulder-straps to be of the same
material as the coat.
With the frock coat the full dress waist belt is to
be worn.
23. ureal Coat and Cape.— Bluemilled cloth, double-
breasted, to reach within a foot of the ground. Stand
and fall collar 4j inches deep with a fly to cover the
band of the cape when buttoned on. Loose round
cuffs 6 inches deep, 2 pockets with flaps at the waist
in front, two openings behind, at the side scams,with
pointed flaps 11 inches long ; a pocket inside the left
breast. A slit in the left side tor hilt of sword to
pass through. An opening behind 19 inehes long,
with a fly, two rows of buttons down the front, six in
each row, the top buttons 6 niches apart, the bottom
ones 4 inches; three buttons on each skirt Hap, the
centre one close to the pocket ; four small buttons at
the opening behind; and five flat buttons under
the fly at the collar. A cloth back-strap attached to
the top button of the skirt flap, to confine the coat to
the waist ; two hooks and eyes to the collar; shoulder-
straps on the coat of the same material as the
garment; a small button of Corps' pattern at the
top. Badges of rank in gilt metal. Cape of the same
cloth as the coat, and long enough to cover the
knuckles ; 4 small buttons in front, to fasten at the
neck with a leather strap, runner and buckle. 4 cloth
tabs with button holes in the lining at the. bottom,
one on either side in front aud two in the rear, so as
to secure the eape to the bottom buttons of the. coat
in front and to the top buttons on the flaps behind.
In the ease of Mounted Officers, the following
modifications will be made.— The opening of the
coat behind will be long enough to reach to the
cantel of the saddle, and a gusset will be introduced
commencing at the top of the slit and extending
downwards to about 24 inches, with about 19 inches
width at the bottom. A tab with buttonhole at the
bottom of gusset to close it when the coat is worn on
foot. A small pocket with a flap at the back of left
Sleeve. On the inside of each skirt a cloth band with
Button to secure the skirts over the knees when the
coat is worn on mounted duties. The four buttons
at the opening behind are omitted. The coat to reach
to the ankles when on foot.
Cave 1 Greet/ Coat on act ire service or mana-uvres).—
When worn, to be rolled and secured by two brown
leather si raps to the belt in the centre of the back.
24. Mess Jacket.— Blue cloth, laced all round in-
cluding collar, with jf-inch gold lace to form bull's
tyr a 1 1 lie bottom of each back seam ; scarlet cloth
collar; gold Russia braid on collar seam; gold
embroidered grenade at each cud, jths. of an inch
from the innor point of the gold laco, and half way
between top and bottom edges of collar, a loop of
gold braid at bottom of collar, to be kept fastened
across the neck, two small buttons on cuff. Crow's
feet of large gold Russia braid, on sleeve, with eye at
top traced inside and out for Lieutenants ; eyes
round top and bottom with loop at bottom for
Captains; shoulder-straps same as tunic, a row of
gilt studs with books and eyes up front and lined with
blue silk. For Field Officers as above, with an inch
lace chevron all round the cuff 6 inches high from
bottom with braided eyes above and below the lace.
No buttons on cuffs.
MessVest.— Scarlet cloth, French cut, open f. inches
at top, edged with gold j-Lnch lace, including collar,
to side scams, crow's foot at each end and centre (top
and bottom I of pocket; a row of gilt studs, with
books and eyes up front.
White Mass Jacket.— Plain drill, without buttons
down the front, upright collar fastened in front with
a loop of white braid ; pocket inside the left breast ;
cuffs pointed the shoulder-straps and badges of
rank to be similar to those lor the white tunic.
White Mess Waistcoat.— Plain drill, without lapels
and fastened with four small gilt buttons.
25. Pouch— Full Dress.— Blue morocco leather col-
lapsing pouch, 4? inches long, 2j- inches deep, outside
leaf of dark blue cloth lined with blue morocco,
stripe of § inch flat gold lace round edge, showing a
red cloth edge embroidered cross guns surmounted
by crown and lion encircled with wreath of laurel
leaves ; underneath, " Per Mare per Terrain." Gilt
buckle, ring, and stud. To be worn only in Levee
and Ball Dress.
Pouch— Undress.— Black patent leather collapsible
pouch.with two pockets, the Hap 64 inches long at the
bottom and 3A inches wide at. the centre point, having
a stud fastening collapsing gilt leaves for loops,
swivel loops. Device of gilt metal cross guns, lion,
and crown.
Pouch fielt.—Red morocco in two pieces, covered
with gold lace, 2 inehes wide, gilt embroidered
buckle and slide, with crossed guns on short piece,
and silver grenade in centre of gilt triangle at the
end of long piece.
26. Pantaloons (for Mounted duties only).— Blue
cloth, with buckskin strapping inside the knees and
a scarlet stripe Ij inch wide down each side seam.
27. Sword— Half-basket steel hilt, -with 2 fluted
bars on the outside ; black lish-skin grip, bound with
silver wire ; slightly curved blade 35i inches long and
li inches wide, having Corps' device, grooved and
spear-pointed.
Scabbard.— Steel, with a large shoe at the bottom
and a trumpet-shaped mouth.
Leather scabbard for use with " Sam Browne "
belts to be the same as that described in the Army
Dress Regulations.
28. Suierd Pelt.— Red morocco leather covered with
li-inch gold lace, with 1-inch slings fitted with
buckles and billets without swivels, gilt double oval
front, with silver lion and crown mounted on plain
snake boot, fastening. When the sword is not carried
the slimrs are to be taken off.
29; Sword Knot. — Gold cord, with a gold acorn and
sliding gold keeper. The undress sword knot for
use with the brown leather belts is a plain brown
leather strap 5 inch broad, 15 inches long in the
double, the ends being secured into an acorn having
plaited leather covering; it is furnished with a
sliding keeper,
30. trousers.— Blue cloth, with a scarlet stripe Ij
inches broad down each side scam. Blue tartan with
scarlet stripes may be worn in hot weather.
For mess dress, blue cloth with a stripe of gold
lace, K.M.A. pattern, Ij inches broad, down each side
seam, will be worn.
White drill or duel; trousers without stripes are
worn on certain stations in hot weather.
Black leather foot straps are, to be worn when
Wellington boots are worn.
