BLUE CLOTH CAP.
Class I.
of bluo cloth of established pattern,
(re) The outside diameter ol the crown of the cap
to be 2J inches greater than the inside
diameter of the band (i.e., hatter's size).
(61 The height of the quartering to be If inches in
front, 1J inches at the sides, and 2 inches at
the back, a piping being worked between the
quartering and the crown,
(o i The band to be If inches in depth, with piping
| of an inch from lower edge to keep the
mohair band in place.
yd) The bandto be stiffened by 2] inchesof stiffening
canvas, and the quarterings to bo partially
supported by wadding,
(c) A plain band of mohair, lj inches deep, to be
worn over the band of the cap, the seam being
in front, so that the cap badge covers it.
if) The peak to be made of a patent black loather,
showing about If inches at the centre, and
inclined down from the band of the cap at an
angle of about 60 degrees.
ig) A chin-stay of patent black leather i of an inch
wide to be secured by a black button at each
end.
*Class II.
Of blue cloth of established pattern,
(re) The outside diameter of the crown to bo 2g
inches larger than the outside diameter of
the band.
The quartering to be lj inches in height, a
piping being worked between it and the
crown,
(-6) The band to be H inches in depth, a piping
being worked at a J of an inch from the lower
edge to keep the cap ribbon in place.
(c) These dimensions being followed, the name
on the cap ribbon should always be visible.
(d) The lining to be of blue sateen, or of some
such material, the crown being stiffened by
an inter-lining of a single thickness of duck.
(e) To be fitted with a shaped stiffener.
( /) To he fitted with two ventilation holes on each
side in the quartering just over the band.
(9) To be fitted with a chin-stay of 1-inch
blue worsted braid, fastened at one end in the
seam of the crown. Length to be adjusted
by the wearer.
(h) Cane gromet to be fitted inside to spread
the crown. Metal stretchers are prohibited.
Class III.
Same pattern as for Class I.
Note.— The serge cap worn by boys in Training
Establishment is to be of the approved pattern.
V WHITE DUCK CAP.
Class II.
Of duck of established pattern.
(a) The outside diameter of the crown to be 2j
inches larger than the outside diameter of
the band.
The quartering to be if inches in height.
(6) The band to be IS inches in depth, a piping
being worked at j of an inch from the lower
edge to keep the cap ribbon in place.
(e) These dimensions being followed, the name
on the cap ribbon should always be visible.
(d) The lining to be of grey jean, wilh an inter-
lining of American cloth, and the outside
band to be of blue cloth same as for blue
cloth cap.
(c) To be fitted with a shaped stiffener.
I f) To be fitted with two ventilation holes on
each side in the quartering just over the band.
(yi To be fitted with a chin stay of 1-iuch
blue 'worsted braid, fastened at one end in
the seam of the crown. Length to be ad-
justed by the wearer.
th) Cane gromet to be Fitted inside to spread the
crown. Metal s I retchers arc prohibited.
*KOTE.- The old pattern Seamen's Blue Cloth Cap
may continue to be warn UHtil further orders.
CAP COVER.
Class I.
Of marcelline, made to button at the hack and with
quarterings Sths of an inch deoper than those of the
blue cloth cap with peak. The band lo be Mis of
an inch in depth, and the diamotertobe S or an inch
greater than that of the cap
The mohair band and badge of the cap to be worn
outside the cap cover.
Class II.
Of duck, the crown being slightly larger than the
cap itself, to prevent puckering. The quarterings
to be II inches in height, and the band li inches
deep.
The cap ribbon to be worn outside the band of Hie
cap cover.
Class III.
Same as for Class 1.
Ships' Cooks, Ships Conks' Males-, < Mlieers' Cooks
and Assistants will wear the Class 11. cap eovor as
a " white cap" in working dress.
CAP BADGES AND DEVICES.
CLASS I.
The badge worn over the mohair band is to be
a crown and anchor, the latter encircled by two
rows of narrow plain embroidery on a ground of
hlack velvet.
For the military branch the device is to be em-
broidered in gold and silver, the anchor being of
silver.
For branches other than the Military Branch, the
whole device is to be of gold.
Electricians and Engine Room Artificers are lo
have the ground of the badge of purplo velvet.
Class III.
Engine Room Artificers,
5th class, Boy Artificers,

tendants, 1st, 2nd, 3rd,
and Boy Writers, 2nd

CAP RIBBONS.
Class II.
Of black silk ribbon, 1,% inches broad and 45 inches
long, the name of the ship, &c, being embroidered
in gold letters i of an inch deep, according to
Admiralty sealed pattern.
SENNET -HATS.
Class II.
To be of White sennet with oval crown, :j inches
high, brim to be straight, 3£ inches wide, inclined
upwards li inches and bound with {-inch black
braid, to he fitted with ventilation holes in each side
of crown ; sides of crown to be lined with flannel ;
the hat to be moderately stiffened ; weight not to
exceed 10 ozs.
A chin-stay of 1-inch blue worsted tape to be
attached to the top of the inside of the hat band.
Length to be adjusted by wearer.
Note.- Sennet hats are originally stiffened by
being washed over with a solution of "Best No.'i
Gelatine," about i oz. ol which is used to each hat
and then blocked and ironed over.
When the hats get limp and out of shape, they
can he easily re-stiffened and brought back to their
original shape by similar treatment, and for this
purpose a hat block and gelatine is supplied to each
ship.
