WARRANTS, REGULATIONS, ETC.
THE MILITARY MEDAL,
GEORGE, B.I.
George the Fifth, by the Grace of God, of
Great Britain, Ireland and the British
Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender
of the Faith, Emperor of India, to ail to whom
these Presents shall come, Greeting 1
Whereas We did by a Warrant under Our
Sign Manual dated the 25th day of March, 1916,
institute and create a silver medal entitled
"The Military Medal," to be awarded to non-
commissioned officers and men for bravery in
the Field, and did make, ordain and establish
certain rules and ordinances for the governance
of the same, which rules and ordinances were
subsequently amended by Warrants dated the
21st day of June, 1916, the 1st day of August,
1918, and the 24th day of March, 1919 ;
And whereas the said Warrants were con-
solidated and varied by a Warrant under Our
Sign Manual dated the 30th day of October,
And whereas We deem it expedient that Our
said Warrant should be amended ;
Now therefore We do hereby declare that the
rules and ordinances contained in Our said
Warrant dated the 30th day of October, 1920,
shall be abrogated, cancelled and annulled, and
We are pleased to make, ordain and establish the
following rules and ordinances in substitution
for the same, which shall from henceforth be
inviolably observed and kept : —
Firstly : It is ordained that the Medal shall be
designated " The Military Medal."
Secondly : It is ordained that The Military
Medal shall bear on the obverse the Royal
Effigy, and on the reverse the words " For
bravery in the Field," encircled by a wreath
surmounted by the Royal Cipher and a Crown.
Thirdly: It is ordained that The Military
Medal may be awarded to Warrant Officers,
Classes I and II, non-commissioned officers and
men serving in any of Our Military Forces for
individual or associated acts of bravery in the
Field, on the recommendation of a Commander-
in-Chief in the Field.
Fourthly : It is ordained that in cases where
Warrant Officers, Classes I and II, non-com-
missioned officers and men who have been
awarded The Military Medal shall be recom-
mended by a Commander-in-Chief in the Field
for further acts of bravery, a Bar or Bars may
be added to the Medal already conferred.
Fifthly : It is ordained that Warrant Officers,
Classes I and II, non-commissioned officers and'
other airmen serving in any of Our Air Forces
may be awarded The Military Medal for indi-
vidual or associated acts of bravery in action
on the ground, on a recommendation to Us by
Our Principal Secretary of State for War ; and
where the Medal lias already been conferred a
Bar or Bars to the Medal may be awarded' to
such personnel for further approved acts of
bravery in action on the ground.

whether Our subjects or foreign persons, who
have shown bravery and devotion under fire, and

EwMMv: It is ordained that The Military
Medal shall not confer any individual prece-
dence, but shall entitle the recipient to the
acldition after his or her name of the letters
Ninthly: It is ordained that the names of

The Military Medal shall be published in the
London. Gazette, and that a Register thereof
shall be kept m the Office of Our Principal
Secretary of State for War. i-imcipai
Tenthly: It is ordained that The Military
Medal shall be worn before war medals in such
order as We may from time to time assian
to it and that it shall be worn on the left
breast pendent from a ribbon of one inch and
one quarter in width, which shall be in colour
dark blue having in the centre three white and
two crimson stripes alternating.
Eleventhly : It is ordained that it shall be
competent for Us, Our Heirs and Successors, by
an Order under Our Sign Manual and on the
recommendation to that effect by or through Our
Principal Secretary of State for War to "cancel
and annul the award of The Military Medal to
any person and that thereupon his or her name
in the Register shall be erased ; but that it shall
be competent for Us, Our Heirs and Successors,
to restore the Medal when such recommendation
has been withdrawn.
Twelfthly : It is ordained that notice of cancel-
ation or restoration in every case shall be
published in the London Gazette.
Lastly: We reserve to Ourself, Our Heirs and
Successors, full power of annulling, altering
abrogating, augmenting, interpreting or dis-
pensing with these regulations, or any part
thereof, by a notification under Our Sign
Manual. e
Given at Our Court at St. James's, this 5th
day of February, in the 21st year of Our Reign,
and in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine
hundred and thirty-one.
