1st Battalion returned, from Egypt, 11 Sept. 1885. 2nd Battalion embarked for Malta, ;S82.
1 General Walter served throughout the Kaffir campaign of 1846-47 as Adjutant of the 90th Light Infantry,,
and Field Adjutant of the 1st Division (Medal). Served with the 53rd Regiment in the Punjab campaign in 1849,
and was present at the battle of Goojerat (Medal with Clasp). Campaign of 1851-52 against the Hill Tribes on
the Peshawur frontier. Served with the 35th Regiment in the Indian campaign of 1S57-59; commanded the
Arrah Field Force in the actions of Sirthooa, Bramineegunge, Rampoorperoiora, Jemaon, and Kareesath ; sub-
sequently a Column in the operations in Shahabad, including the actions before Nonoodhee (twice mentioned in
despatches, CB., and Medal).
2 Lt.Colonel Gem served in the Nile Expedition in 1S84-85 with the ist Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment,
toDkpart in the operations of the Desert Column under Sir Herbert Stewart, including the action at Abu Klea,.
and commanded a detached post at that station (Medal with two Clasps, and Khedive's Star).
11 Lt.Colonel Cafe served in the Egyptian war of 1882. ana was present at the surrender of Kafr Dowar( Medal,
and Khedive's Star).
27 Major Donne served in the Egyptian war of 1882 with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment.
(Medal, and Khedive's Star) ; also served throughout the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 on the Line of Communica-
tions with the Egyptian Army and as Commandant at Absarat (Clasp, 4th Class of the Medjidie). Served in
the operations near Suakin in December 1888 and commanded the 10th Soudanese Battalion in the engagement
at Gemaizah (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Clasp) ; also commanded the Battalion in the opera-
tions on the Nile Frontier in 18S9 and was present in the engagements at Arghin and Toshki (mentioned in_
despatches, Clasp, and 3rd Class of the Medjidie). Has also been nominated to the 3rd Class of the Osmaniehfor
services in Egypt.
20 Major Gore, Captains Ashhurst, O'Grady, and Crawfurd served in the Nile Expedition in 1S84-85 with the ist
Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment, and took part in the operations of the Desert Column under Sir Herbert
Stewart (Medal with Clasp, andJKhedive's Star).
21 Major Young served in the
l the Egyptian war of 1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Star). Served in the Nile Expedition
in 18S4-85 with the 1st Battalion of the Roval Sussex Regiment, and took part in the operations of the Desert
Column under Sir Herbert Stewart (Clasp).
23 Major du Moulin served in the Hazara campaign in i838 with the 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment
(mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp). Served with the Chin-Lushai Expeditionary Force in 1889-90 on.
Transport duty (mentioned in despatches, Clasp) ; and with the Manipore Expeditionary Force in 1891 as
Brigade Transport Officer to the Silchar Column (Clasp).
2 * Major Pierson served throughout the Egyptian war of 1882 as Regimental Transport Officer of the left half ol
the 1 st Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, and was present at the surrender of Kafr Dowar and Damietta, (Medal
and Khedive's Star). Served m the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 as Adjutant to the 1st Battalion of the Royal Sussex
Regiment, and took part in the operations of the Desert Column under Sir Herbert Stewart (Clasp) .
26 Captain Scaife served in the Egyptian warjOf 1882 with the ist Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment, and-
was present at the defence of Alexandria, the surrender of Kafr Dowar, and the occupation of Damanhour (Medal,
and Khedive's Star). Servedinthe Nile Expedition in 1884-85 as Regimental Transport Officerof the ist Batta-
lion of the Royal Sussex Regiment (Clasp).
28 Captain Le Marchant served in the Egyptian war of 1882 (Medal, and Khedive's Starl. Served in the Nile Ex-
pedition in 1884-85 with the ist Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment, and took part in the operations of the
Desert Column under Sir Herbert Stewart including the action at Abu Klea (two Clasps). Served in the Hazara
campaign in 1 S8S with the 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment (Medal with Clasp). TSee also Civil Decora-

29 Captains Church, Skinner, and Gilbert served in the Hazara campaign in 1888 with the 2nd Battalion Royal
