1 General MacKinnon served as Assistant Quarter Master General at the Cape of Good Hope in the Kaffir war
of 1546-47, and as Colonel on the Staff in command of the 2nd Division of the forces in the field in the Kaffir war
of 1851-52 (Medal).
3 Lt.Colonel Rawlins served intheGaikawarof 1878 in command of the mounted infantry of his regiment ; served
throughout the Zulu war of 1879 in the Second Squadron of Mounted Infantry, and was present in the engage-
ments at Inyezane and Gingindhlovu (mentioned in despatches), and throughout the operations of Clarke's Column
(Medal with Clasp).
7 Lt.Colonel Lomax served as Adjutant of the 90th Light Infantry in IheGaika war of 1878, including the operations
in the Waterkloof and Perie Bush, and the engagement at Taba Indoda. Also served throughout tne Zulu war of
5879, and was present in the engagements at Zungin Nek. Kambula, and.Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
10 Major Strong served with the 90th Light Infantry in the Gaika war of 1878, including the operations in the

12 Major Douglas served in the Soudan Expedition under Sir Gerald Graham in 1PS4 as Aide de Camp to
Major General Davis, Commanding 2nd Brigade, and was present in the engagements at El Teb and Temai
(mentioned, in despatches, Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star). Served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85
with the Desert Column attached to the 19th Hussars (Clasp).
13 Major Grant served with the Bechuanaland Expedition under Sir Charles Warren in 1884-85.
14 Major Hopkins served with the 90th Light Infantry in the Zulu war of 1879, and was present in the engage-
ments at Kambula and Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).

26 Captain Lysons served as Aide de Camp to Brigadier General Wood during the Zulu war of 1879, and was present
in the engagements at Zungin Nek, Zlobane Mountain (mentioned in despatches, Victoria Cross), Kambula (again
mentioned), and Ulundi (Medal with Clasp): together with Private Edmond Fowler, Scottish Rifles (since dis-
charged), was awarded the l T l£ under the following circumstances: — "On the 28th March 1879, during the
assault of the Inhlobane Mountain, Sir Evelyn Wood ordered the dislodgment of certain Zulus (who were
causing the troops much loss) from strong natural caves commanding the position in which some of the
wounded were lying. Some delay occurring in the execution of the orders issued, Captain the Honourable
Ronald Campbell, Coldstream Guards, followed by Lieutenant Lysons, Aide-de-Camp, and Private Fowler, ran
forward in the most determined manner, and advanced over a mass of fallen boulders, and between walls of
rock, which led to a cave in which the enemy lay hidden. It being impossible for two men to walk abreast
the assailants were consequently obliged to keep in single file, and as Captain Campbell was leading, he
arrived first at the mouth of the Ciive, from which the Zulus were firing, and there met his death; Lieutenant
Lysons and Private Fowler, who were following close behind him, immediately dashed at the cave, from which
led several subterranean passages, and firing into the chasm below, succeeded in forcing the occupants to forsake
their stronghold. Lieutenant Lysons remained at the cave's mouth for some minutes after the attack, during
which time Captain Campbell's body was carried down the slopes." Served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 with
the_ Egyptian Army (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
