DescriptionWe withdrew, without fighting' by Arthur Moreland. This cartoon shows British soldiers marching a group of German prisoners away from the lines. A German soldier is depicted saying to one of his counterparts, '"WE WITHDREW, WITHOUT FIGHTING, TO A POSITION PREVIOUSLY PREPARED."' The implication seems to be that the German troops have surrendered in a cowardly manner. Some of the best-known cartoonists and illustrators of the day contributed work to 'Sea-Pie', including Bert Thomas and Lawson Wood. Arthur Moreland was another successful commercial artist, who illustrated series of postcards and contributed to the 'Daily News' as well as to 'Sea-Pie'.

Description'Sea-Pie' magazine was founded to raise funds for authorised naval charities. The first issue appeared on 23 June 1917, priced one shilling. The magazine typically contained short stories, poems, cartoons, and paintings and drawings, often on a nautical theme.
