DescriptionBy Private R. Inward, this cartoon shows two soldiers in a trench under heavy gunfire, with one of the soldiers complaining that it is his comrade’s sparkling diamond ring which is attracting the gunfire. The caption reads: 'PUT DOWN YOUR HAND, IKEY, PUT DOWN YOUR HAND! - IT’S YOUR DIAMOND THAT’S ATTRACTING THE FIRE!' The 'Jordan Highlanders' was a nickname given to two battalions of Jews in the Royal Fusiliers who formed part of Major-General Chaytor's force in the Jordan Valley and in Transjordania in September, 1918. 'Ikey' is short for Isaac.
