DescriptionBy Lawson Wood. This cartoon shows an army private falling through the snowy roof of a dugout. The bag containing food rations he is holding has split and its contents are rining down on his fellow soldiers. The caption reads 'COMING THROUGH WITH THE RATIONS'. Lawson Wood (1878-1957) was a well known illustrator and artist thoughout the first half of the twentieth century. As well as 'Sea-Pie', his cartoons also appeared in 'Punch' magazine and in the 'Illustrated London News', and he illustrated several books, including 'The Merry Monkeys' in 1946.

Description'Sea-Pie' magazine was founded to raise funds for authorised naval charities. The first issue appeared on 23 June 1917, priced one shilling. The magazine typically contained short stories, poems, cartoons, and paintings and drawings, often on a nautical theme.
