'Eighteenth Century Collections Online': acquired in 2004

Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) consists of the digitised full text of over 150,000 books printed between 1701 and 1800. Every significant English-language and non-English-language title printed in the UK and the former British territories during this period is available, along with thousands of important works from the Americas.

ECCO has more than 33 million pages of material, all available online to registered users of the National Library of Scotland. A major benefit of this purchase is that we can offer remote access to to anyone with an NLS library card and a Scottish address. From a computer with internet access you can search and browse ECCO titles and search the full-text of every page of every book.

The collection includes the complete works of major writers in the Age of Enlightenment – such as David Hume, Thomas Paine and Adam Smith. It also covers a diverse range of lesser-known authors and provides a rich seam of material for researchers into the ground-breaking 18th century.
