Lewis Grassic Gibbon notebook: acquired in 1981

Pictured is a page from the notebook of Scottish author Lewis Grassic Gibbon. It includes an autograph sketch plan of 'Segget', the setting for 'Cloud Howe'. Published in 1933, this was the middle volume in Gibbon's trilogy, 'A Scots Quair'.

The notebook is included in the Grassic Gibbon papers, bought by the National Library of Scotland in 1981.

Gibbon (real name: James Leslie Mitchell) is only one of the many 20th-century Scottish authors whose manuscript and typescript papers are housed in the Library. These collections include everything from correspondence to drafts of poems, plays, novels and critical works.
